چکیده

Although heavy metals are naturally occurring elements that found throughout the Earth’s crust, most environmental contamination and human exposure result from anthropogenic activities, such as mining smelting operations, industrial production use, domestic agricultural use of metal-containing compounds. The accumulation eventually produces reactive oxygen species can cause oxidative stress, which may lead to various diseases. aim this study was evaluate possible effects iron zinc on kidney liver tissues positive juglone (5-hydroxy-1,4-naphthoquinone) antioxidant activity, using an immunohistochemical technique. animals under were randomly divided into five groups (seven in each group): group I, control; II, (Fe) (600 ppm); III, (Zn) (400 IV, Fe + juglone; V, Zn juglone. Hematoxylin-eosin (H&E) applied determine histological sides damage caused by administration reducing these damages. Furthermore, TUNEL method DNA damages cells. density higher than other groups.

Formation of 5-Hydroxy-3-methoxy-1,4-naphthoquinone and 8-Hydroxy-4-methoxy-1,2-naphthoquinone from Juglone

From the treatment of 5-hydroxy-1,4-naphthoquinone (juglone) with acetic anhydride and H2SO4 followed subsequently by treatment with methanolic HCl, 5-hydroxy-3-methoxy-1,4-naphthoquinone (3-methoxy juglone) and 8-hydroxy-4-methoxy-1,2-naphthoquinone were obtained as products rather than the anticipated product 2,5-dihydroxy-1,4-naphthoquinone (2-hydroxy juglone). The reaction and the identific...

Determination of Juglone (5-hydroxy 1,4-naphthoquinone) in Pterocarya fraxinifolia by RP-HPLC

A method for determination of juglone in leaves and hulls of Pterocarya fraxinifolia was developed, based on RP-HPLC. This compound was extracted from leaves and hulls by chloroform refluxing about 2 hours. The chloroform was evaporated under low pressure at   50 ºC to produce a dry residue. The remained materials were dissolved in acetonitrile to be used for determination of this compound....

Protective effect of curcumin against heavy metals-induced liver damage.

Occupational or environmental exposures to heavy metals produce several adverse health effects. The common mechanism determining their toxicity and carcinogenicity is the generation of oxidative stress that leads to hepatic damage. In addition, oxidative stress induced by metal exposure leads to the activation of the nuclear factor (erythroid-derived 2)-like 2/Kelch-like ECH-associated protein ...
